2019 Colleen Finalists
Abigail Turner is a senior at Falmouth High School. She is the President of the French Honors Society and a member of multiple other societies as well. Abby has played soccer and lacrosse at the high school for the past four years and is extremely grateful to her coaches and teammates for all their hard work and dedication. On the weekends, she teaches second grade CCD and is an active member of the ECHO program on Cape Cod. She participates weekly in the meetings for ECHO and is a member of the Youth Board. Following her high school graduation, Abby intends to study Nursing at a college in the New England area.
Abby traces her Irish ancestry to Counties Cork and Limerick.
Kiera Furey is a senior at Falmouth High School where she is a member of the National Math, Spanish, and Science Honor Societies as well as President of the Science Honor Society. Kiera is also an AP Scholar with Honor, a Varsity Soccer Player and member of Mentors in Violence Prevention. Kiera's great-great grandfather and other relatives were important figures in the struggle for Independence in County Galway in the days leading up to and following the Easter Uprising. Kiera plans to persevere in exhibiting her family's strong ties to their Irish heritage and values as she continues to grow and develop.
Madison is a senior at Mashpee High School and takes pride in both her Mexican and her Irish heritage. She hopes to study political science at Brown University or the University of Southern California. Currently, Madison is the president of Mu Alpha Theta (the Mathematics Honor Society), the vice president of the National Honor Society, and the head of the prom committee. She is Mashpee’s recipient of the 2018 Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents’ Certificate of Academic Excellence and has been recognized as an AP Scholar and a National Hispanic Scholar. Madison is also a 9 year member of the A. Lovely Dance Studio competition team, where she takes lessons in tap, ballet, jazz, and lyrical/contemporary. She would like to travel to Singapore and Australia. Many of Madison’s Irish ancestors hail from County Galway.
Rachel is a Senior at Barnstable High School where she is a member of the National Honor Society; President of the French National Honor Society and Secretary of the Human Rights Club. Having played ice hockey since the 4th grade, Rachel has risen to the position of Captain of the Varsity Girls Ice Hockey team. In addition, she has also captained the Varsity Girls Cross Country team. Rachel has been fortunate enough to travel to France and Greece with a French host family. She plans to major in Nursing at a University while minoring in French and to possibly attain a nursing career with the U.S. Army or as a “travel nurse”. Rachel feels that her values of hard work and perseverance have been heavily instilled by her Irish grandmother Bennett.
