State Representative Tim Whelan represents the 1st Barnstable District, covering all or parts of the Towns of Barnstable, Yarnouth, Dennis, and Brewster.

Born and raised in an Irish-American family in the City of Worcester, he began his career in law enforcement working as a Corrections Officer in the Worcester County Sheriff's Department. He later joined the Massachusetts State Police where he served 21 years, retiring as a Sergeant from the South Yarmouth barracks.

Representative Whelan was sworn in as a member of the 189th General Court of the Massachusetts legislature in January 2015. He is also a proud Veteran of our armed forces having served honorably in the United States Marine Corps.

Married to his high-school sweetheart, Lisa Whelan, for over 25 years they are the proud parents of two adult daughters, Maggie and Katie.

Tim and Lisa are very proud of their Irish heritage and some of their fondest memories involve their many family trips to Ireland. as well as the years Maggie and Katie danced competitively for the McInerney School of Irish Dance.
